Regarding Griffiths Valuation. The survey for Sleaty, and likely also
Graigue, only abt 2 miles away is stated as being taken 1851/1852.

My ancestor, John Donnelly whose children, were 'of Sleaty' on their
baptisms 1839-1847, was in Liverpool by the time of the 1851 census. The
last known child of John Donnelly's was baptised 'of Sleaty Graigue' in
1847.
But .... Griffith's for Graigue shows a John Donnelly in Graigue. As he was
the only DONNELLY listed, I was sure he was mine, but how could this be if
the Valuation was taken in 1851/52 and John Donnelly was in Liverpool for
the 1851 census.

In an attempt to clarify this I visited the Valuation Office in Dublin to
view the original Griffiths for Sleaty and Graigue (Ord. S. 32 & 37)

The following was printed at the bottom of the documents; which I feel shows
that the map and list of occupants etc were resident in 1839; 13/14 yrs
before Griffiths was published. I would be interested in comments from
other listers who have had a similar experience with the Griffiths Index.

"Surveyed in 1839 by Major Waters and Lieutenants Wynne and Leach RE and
engraved in 1841 under the direction of Captain Larcom RE at the Ordnance
Survey Office Phoenix Park by Edward Piele, the ornament by John Parker, the
writing by P. Fraser"
