In case anybody thinks the coincidences are over, think again!!!!

The Jerusalem - Athy road, Ireland has 2 main townsland with intersections at:

1. Maganey
2. Levitstown

Re 1. Maganey:
In Hebrew there is a word sounding just like Maganey pronounced 'Machaneh'. It means 'military camp'.

Re 2. Levitstown
'Town of the Levites' - need I say more!

So Jerusalem - Maganey - Levitstown - Athy
-- Jerusalem - Machaneh - Town of the Levites - Ai
(Un)Lazy people can check it out for themselves on any os map of the area.

CASTLEDERMOT (north of Carlow) - means The Castle of Diarmuid:
Now Diarmuid is Gaelic for 'Jeremiah'
So Castledermot is - The Castle of Jeremiah.
The geographical position of Castledermot relative to Carlow/Jerusalem is north(east).

Now when the prophet Jeremiah was prophesising in Jerusalem he went at one stage to his home place to claim his share of the family inheritance ( They were concerned about genealogy even in those days!!!). Where was his home place? In or around the town of Anathoth, 5-10 mls northish of Jerusalem, in the territory of the tribe of Benjamin.

See http://www.ccel.org/wwsb/Jeremiah/37/12.html for various translation of Jeremiah 37.12 where he goes off to claim his posrtion of the family inheritance..
And http://www.biblestudy.org/maps/12-tribes-israel-large-map.html for a map where the territory of the tribe of Benjamin was (which, relatively speaking, would include the whole area around Athy - Castledermot and all north of Jerusalem, Carlow).

References (for those un-lazy people who might want to check it all out!!):
See http://www.forward.com/articles/jacob-s-camps-jacob-s-gifts/

or http://www.israelnationalnews.com/news.php3?id=117142 for 'The secret sights and stories of Jerusalem's Machaneh Yehuda'

And for those who have a few months to spare to research it all try:

http://www.biblemysteries.com/library/liafail.htm

The last reference ties it all in with Keatings famous 'History of Ireland'. http://www.irishroots.com/id4462.htm

Still all conjecture, though. Perhaps it would be better if Jerusalem, Carlow never existed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy researching and happy Christmas.
Gerry
