I see Cavanaugh mentioned in recent post.

Did you know the parish priest of Knock, Mayo in 1879 - the time of the famed apparitions there - was an Archdeacon Cavanaugh. He was apparently a man of saintly reputation and reputedly had just finished 100 masses offered especially for the Holy Souls of purgatory when the apparitions occured. Some say that the apparitions occured there because of him.

BUT he was descended from the Cavanaughs of Carlow who apparently were fairly large landowners in Carlow. Anybody know these Cavanaughs or the connection?

Gerry
