Subject: [IRL-CARLOW] Townland Ballynultagh/County Wicklow (on County Carlowborder)

Hello Listers -

Researching Ballynultagh townland, Barony Shillelagh (& also Poor Law Union), Civil Parish Mullinacuff, in southern County Wicklow on border with Clonmore Civil Parish in County Carlow (on Ordinance Survey Map #62, 1.5k north of Shillelagh).

Question: In period of 1780's - 1830's, what Catholic parish church would people from Ballynultagh have attended?

I realize all the factors of Penal Code, etc., but have found many family records from same period from Hacketstown (Co.Carlow) Catholic parish about 7 miles north.

Cara has given her input in the past, suggesting Crosspatrick, Coolattin and Shillelagh and I have covered those areas.

Now I am wondering about the neighboring Civil Parish in Co. Carlow: Clonmore. Was there an RC parish near Clonmore then? Or would Ballynultagh people have worshipped in Hacketstown?

Can anyone help me to determine the geographical boundaries of the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin, Diocese of Ferns and Diocese of Dublin in those same years (also keeping in mind the Penal Code).

I just cannot be certain I have narrowed my search to the pertinent LDS and Irish Genealogical Office records without your help.

Many thanks, as always, in advance!
Sharon Kavanagh
p.s. to Cara: Thanks for all the Kavanagh tidbits you have been posting since your return! I haven't missed one.
