The Griffiths Valuation maps are a totally different set of maps. They show
the plots and the numbers referred to in the GV. The original maps are held
in Dublin of which you can order copies of the maps sections showing the
plot numbers. You can view an example of one of these maps here:

Thanks Michael for your 3 replies. I am taking steps to source the
Discovery maps locally, i.e. Sydney, Australia.

I do however come back to the question of the maps quoted with the
Griffith's valuations, or are these the self same Discovery maps? To
reprise the relevant Griffith's information (ref:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cummins/GRIFcarlow.htm):

Barony of Carlow, Poor Law Union of Carlow

Parish of Tullowmagimma

Townland of Tinriland (Ord. S. 7), 545 acres

Map# Occupants Immediate Lessor Description Area Land £ Bldgs £

19 A } Bartholomew Waters Viscount Beresford {Land 5-3-32 6-0-0 ---
19 B a} {House, offices and land 99-3-15 75-0-0 4-5-

In this particular case, what does "Ord. S. 7" and "map numbers 19A and 19B
a" mean?

Can I locate the land that was valued here from this map reference?

[I appreciate now that this does not refer to Maplestown. This man,
Bartholomew Waters, had a daughter Anne whose birth is recorded as at
Maplestown (or, as has been suggested, that could be a mistranscription of
Staplestown) but I would like (an understatement) to be able to locate where
he lived, or at least had this land around 1852.]

The townland of Tinriland was or is relatively small and this land tenancy
is almost one sixth of its area. As I understand, Tinriland is slightly SSE
of Carlow.

Thanks, Bill.
