Hi all.
I am sure that there is someone out there who has been down this road...
My grandfather came from Ireland and it is my understanding, that as a
result of that, I can apply for an Irish Passport. I am considering this
for a couple of reasons and have hit a bit of a roadblock.. I understand
that I need to obtain a birth certificate for him, which I believe I can do
fairly easily - although someone else in the family tried that quite some
number of years ago and hit a roadblock. I think they may have been
operating off of an incorrect birthdate, though. I also understand that I
have to document my lineage with my Dad's birth certificate, Grandpa's death
cert., etc.
I received my Grandpa's death cert. (c. 1956) in the mail yesterday. The
major bummer is that my Dad was the informant to the coroner and did not
know a lot of the info required. (Parents names, his correct birthday...)
so the stuff is either blank or wrong. And no one else ever went back and
had it corrected. I have a lot of other documentation, such as a WW2
Selective Service card, a marriage licence app., and a citizenship
declaration that I was able to copy off of microfilm in PA. I do not
believe the state certifies any of this stuff and I wonder if that might
render it useless in terms of true documentation for the purpose of securing
citizenship/passport? I have found that getting records from a number of
the churches in Philadelphia has been difficult, at best. Many seem to have
little financial means, and often haven't kept some relevant stuff.
Any guidance or thoughts much appreciated.
Joann
