Thank Heavens for your 'work' of love. I hve just joined the list and was searching for Nolan's..where do I find this graveyard trans' of Petertemple?
My Ellen Nolan married Patrick Dooley and they headed off to Canada, but had children in Carlow/Wexford up until 1810, when son Jeremiah was born. Any connection Cara?. Blessings, Mizz Lizz

burial books, graveyards and headstones, also doing history and that on
churches ( Just a hobby ) and the only thing
I can copyright is my format as that has been stated, but in sympathy to
those families who would not like to see their recent headstones,
put on the net, I myself have sought and received permission to use the data
I have lovingly transcribed, and typed up, ( going blind almost )
and sharing with the people who frequent the net. ( for free) the copyright
laws in Ireland differ to anywhere else in the world, but like all public
domain data, facts are facts and can be used, as in the case of what goes on
headstone.
Now as I run the Irish Tombstone and Cemetery list, I often come up against
the word copyright of headstone, headstones themselves what is written on
them etc, and the way they are writen on are copyrighted, and they belong to
the person who erected them, and then on down the through the family, and
this has been carefully checked out in Ireland, not in America or Australia
or anywhere else that we may research from, but in Ireland. I recently
posted on the other two lists care and do's and donts reccommended by the
people who mind out ancestors antique headstones in Ireland.
There first thought is when you have the opportunity in a graveyard, record
all the words first, I am making a plea for those of you, visiting Ireland
in the near future, and should you be so lucky to record your own headstone
for your search, would you take the time in your busy schedule to record the
one either side of it, and share it with the Irish Lists, Please.
As an aside :-
For instance may I take the graveyard of TEMPLEPETER which as you know is
online for the NOLAN name I also have
been there, recorded every headstone that was in their, and I also like the
getnleman who has put them on the internet, have the right
to post those stones where I want, they are indeed my own work. As is his,
so along the way isnt it in the end a case of sharing the data, the purpose
of the exercise.
Not who has copyright. In the long run, I have dates that the gentleman who
has this wonderful site for the Nolan headstones, that I must get to him to
complete his missing word or two.
That to me is sharing. I have not been currently on line to send much to
anyone of late, as I burnt the chips so to speak and in the process, almost
lost 25 years of research material.
I want to add here and ask anyone who has data willing to share on the
Carlow web site or Christina Hunts archival works, please do so as they are
safer there, than anywhere for posterity, this has been a huge awareness of
what would have happened if the burnt chippies had of gotten further than
the kitchen.
I am now busy back at my computer trying to see what data needs to go where,
so that this never gives me the gut wrenching fear of losing all this paper
work I have gathered again, all be it in the last few months I had wanted to
shred it, but when push cam to shove, I love the handling of old papers and
would be devastated if it had of gone with the burnt chippies, ( fries)
Good luck in your researching and remember that piece of information you
thought might be useless, didnt fit in your research, belongs to Carlow send
on to Michael if its is Irish content send on To Christina Hunt..
Cheers
Cara
