Hi, Bill--

I don't believe we have a family connection, but we may have a
geographical/historical one. My GG Grandfather, Patrick Sloan, was also an
Irish immigrant who served in the Civil War and marched with Sherman.
Family members have kept many of his letters home, and when I have time,
I've been scanning/transcribing them and posting them on a website:

If your wife is not fortunate enough to have letters from her ancestor,
these may give her a flavor of what camp life was like.

Subject: [IRL-CAVAN] Joseph Heery

Listers,

My wife's great grandfather, Joseph Heery, came from King's Court, County
Cavan. He was born on 16 June 1828 and in 1849 emigrated to the US. He
served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was a part of Sherman's
March to the Sea. After the war, he was discharged in Illinois on 10 July
1865, then in 1868 at the age of 40, he married Mary Clark. They settled in
Chicago. In 1907, he died of chronic nephritis. Mary died in 1928.

Joseph and Mary had a son named James. My wife's grandfather and father were
both named James. Her father died in May 1998. I am looking for any
connection. In addition, I am seeking any records from Ireland on Joseph.
