Hello all,
I'm a newby to this list as well as to researching my Irish forebears.
I'm very grateful for the link to the Clare Library site because I think I
may have happened on Hugh GORMAN my GG Grandfather.
He is listed (along with 15 others) on a tithe applotment in Fossabeg -
Townland and Tomgraney - Parish.

It may well be a long straw because all I know of my G.Grandmother Catherine
GORMAN is that her father was Hugh GORMAN and mother Honora MACANARTNEY and
that Catherine was born in Scarriff, County Clare in1831.

Catherine subsequently came to Australia and was married to my G.Grandfather
Joseph HARWOOD on the goldfields of Wedderburn, Victoria.

What I would like to know is if there is anyway of confirming the link. I
do appreciate that the history of the times made record keeping extremely
tenuous. I'm new to Irish history also having been brought up in the
Anglican Church and secular schools. Have just started reading Leon Uris'
book Trinity. Quite an eye-opener!

Thank you for the chance to look!

Elizabeth Andrews
Victoria, Australia.
