The Boston Pilot was the newspaper of the Archdiocese of Boston, but it
was distributed throughout North America. As you can see from the
excerpts on my Ahern webpage, the content of the missing persons ads are a
wealth of genealogical data as they mention siblings, maiden names,
parents, etc., but most importantly the parish and often the townland
location of origin in Ireland. If you look at the tables of contents for
the Mallow Field Club Journals of the past several years, you will find
that all of the ads that reference place names in the Mallow area from the
first seven volumes of "Missing Friends" have been excerpted already. All
of these issues are still in print and available from the Society. Some
of the original volumes are still available from The Irish Ancestral
Research Association at http://tiara.ie/order.htm or from the New England
Historic and Genealogical Society.
