Hi
On the off chance that I may have a hit, I'm sending my interest in Cork
ancestors. I may find a relative who knows about my KELLYs of Wisconsin.
John and Margaret Kelly appear on the 1860 census in Decatur township, Green
co., Wisconsin. Both were born in Ireland--oral history says Cork Co. In
addition to John and Margaret are John 10, Eliza 7, Timothy 5, Maurice 3 and
Mary 8/12. John was born in New York and the rest in Wisconsin.
I surmise that the parents arrived in NY stayed long enough for the birth of
a child and then made their way to Wisconsin where they remained. What I
don't know: did they marry in Ireland or New York? New York city or State?
What was Margaret's maiden name? Where in Cork co do I start? Or is that
impossible with so little to go on?
I have tried to check passenger lists. Several hundred John Kellys came
during the famine. Census records for NY for 1850. Several 100 John Kellys.
No naturalization record that I've found.
I've tried to find Margaret's maiden name but so far I haven't. That might
narrow the search some. The Church in Wisconsin denies records of the
children baptisms.
Any suggestions welcome
