Timothy Kelly who owned a big store
Wanted his name painted over the door
One day Pat Clancy the painterman came
Tried to be fancy, but misspelled the name

Instead of Kelly with double "L" "Y"
He spelled it Kelly but one "L" was shy
Said Pat: It looks right but I want no pay
'Cause I figured it out in my own little way

Sure, a single "L" "Y" or a double "L" "Y"
Would look all the same to an Irish man's eye
And if you knock out the "L" from Killarney
Still Killarney it always will be

But if I knock the "L" out of Kelly
Sure he'll knock the "L" out of me!!
