Eleanor, I had never before heard of a " United Church of Ireland".
You probably mean the protestant " Church of Ireland"
A Parish Clerk is one, usually, in those days who for the labour of
love, volunteered his services as a Sexton and recorder of the
happenings in the day to day activities of his church; i.e., ring the
bell for services; record the details of baptism, deaths and
marriages, etc. etc.
Since it seems that he was a Protestant, you stand a very good chance
of getting some details from the Heritage Centre.
There are NO civil records of anything, except marriages prior to
1845.
But the Protestant parish of Mallow have records extant since 1776.
Bye the way, Euro dollars will become the currency of Ireland ( except
Nth. Ireland) from January 1st. 2002.
I hope you receive good and satisfactory results.
