Pat
With that date you are going to have problems, records are not good.

I am aware that may people put the county of departure rather than the
county of residence on emigration forms which is why many people claimed to
be from Cork. Usually this is associated with the major shipping lines
calling at Quenstown (now Cobh) but you ancestor probably left during the
famine or soon after and that was before the port at Queenstown was
developed (the first Cunard sailing from Queenstown was in 1859). During the
famine Liverpool was the port of departure for about 70% of Irish
emigration, the port of Cork (ie Cork city) had about 2% overall but more in
the late famine period.

Most of Griffiths Valuation in Cork is about the same as your 1853 date but
as your Patrick DeCourcy was probably young and quite possibly not the
person that was going to inherit the land anyway then he would not be listed
on a land valuation. Where Griffiths can be useful is in identifying hot
spots of the name. You will need to extract all the DeCourcy, Courcy and any
other spelling variations you can think of from the whole of Ireland, map
them, then look for concentrations.

The key is the parish records (I am assuming he was catholic and did not
convert when he was married). If an area of interest is covered by a
heritage centre then contact them for a search, Mallow charges 63.50 euro I
don't know if the others are the same. There is has no heritage centre in
west co Cork so your only choice is to contact the parish priest, your
chances of getting a reply will vary.

Good luck
Michael

Patrick DeCourcy that left from Co Cork coming to the US sometime before
1853. I know nothing of his parents or possible siblings, I don't know how
he ended up in
