Katherine-
Your posting just caught my attention and I needed to go back and study my
notes. I am currently researching my Irish half (BUCKLEY, SCANNELL, HAYES)
but the name Patrick Corcoran in NYC caught my eye. I studied and completed
my German side last year and I remember a Jeremiah Francis Corcoran married
my Rosie Steitz in 1895. The father of Jeremiah was a Patrick Corcoran who
was in NYC. Does this sound familiar? Rosie was born in 1875 in Manhattan so
I would suppose Jeremiah was about that same age. I never really tracked
them as they were peripheral but this is interesting as I remember something
similar going on with the surname and losing track of them in the little
that I tried to track them.

Hi Amy,

I had a Patrick Corcoran who arrived in NY. The next year I found him after
a long search under the name Patrick Cochran. What a surprise because in
Ireland the only spelling where he came from was Corcoran.

Good luck!

Subject: Query

Searching for parents and/or any ancestors or relatives of Thomas Cochran,
whom family legend says he was from Cork County, town unknown. This Thomas
Cochran was sometimes called Thomas Fern Cochran. Could the Fern perhaps be
a family surname? Thomas Cochran is my paternal great grandfather.

He immigrated to the United States prior to 1850, at which time he was
working for the railroad alongside many other Irish laborers, and said he
was 28 (therefore born circa 1822). He was in 1850 located in Bedford
County, Virginia, USA, where he remained the rest of his life and died in
1889.

He married Louisa Hammond of Virginia.

Family legend says he had a brother who also immigrated with him, but his
name is unknown to me. The same legend says they arrived in New York, New
York, USA, but I have not been able to find any trace of Thomas Cochran's
immigration record or his application for citizenship in the US.

I hope to visit Ireland next year (2008) and would love to be in touch with
some of my Irish relatives.

Please offer suggestions to help me in my research.

Thank you.
