Hello list-

I am writing to introduce our new project, the MUNWAPA project. Researching
our ancestors, Amanda and I see a great need to attempt to pool information
about the great number of Irish who left Ireland in the 19th Century and
traveled to south Wales for a new life. They were all involved either
directly or indirectly in the closely related coal and iron industries. Many
of our ancestors later moved to Pennsylvania as the industry transformed.

There is little known of these Irish natives but there were plenty of them
who participated in this journey. We are looking to pool the information
that we do know and hopefully as we learn about our neighbors in south Wales
we will develop some new thoughts and from these associations we may be lead
closer to our goal.

Please take a look at www.MUNWAPA.moonfruit.com and even more importantly
help us by contributing the facts that you know about these people. We have
just begun our project and the data available is still in the early stages.
We will need some help both building the database and updating data with
known information. But do you realize the effect of seeing "Skibbereen" or "
Bantry", versus "Ireland" that we are accustomed to seeing, as the origin
of someone on your ancestors' street or even more importantly in the house
they called home? We hope to give a boost to researchers looking for a more
focused target in Ireland to further their research to the next level.
Amanda & I have never met but our ancestors made this journey
simultaneously. That is significant despite the fact that history books fail
to mention this series of migrations. If your folk did this too, hop on the
boat, we have plenty of spare oars.

This is a free site. We just ask for a bit of honest participation in
return.

John & Amanda
