Subject: [DUBLIN IRELAND] William Strain's Whereabouts
Date: Wed, 6 Nov 2002 12:10:15 -0500
Hello Everyone
Thank you for all of your past help in my search for GG Grandfather William Wright Strain...He still eludes me, however, so I thought that I'd send out another SOS, and hope that his whereabouts in Dublin may become clearer.
.......
Anthony very kindly helped find him in the 1850 Dublin Directory, at 1 Hardwicke St, earning a living as coal factor. Thanks again, Anthony, for the beautiful colour photo of his last known address.
Where he went from there continues to baffle me.
........
I now know that he and his brother Joseph were born in Killyfuddy, Killeevan, near Newbliss, Co Monaghan.
William turns up in Canada about 185, when his first child was born.
................
If anyone knows of his whereabouts in Ireland pre and post 1850, or can guide me to publications that might help me track him down I'd really appreciate it.
........
I've ordered all of the Killeevan Church records that the LDS has available, and so far have only uncovered a James Strain in the Griffiths Valuation . This James is 72 and could very well be William and Joseph's father.
..............
This is so tantalizing as I feel that I'm so close to finding him, but he disappears like a wisp of smoke.
Any help would be so appreciated.
...........
Thanks
Dinny in Canada
