Hello Pat.
I had my best time right in the Liberties section of Dublin...went to the
churches, the streets I found on my family birth and death records...Coombe,
Upper Kevin, Mill, Upper Clanbrassil, etc. Walked and walked and took pictures
of old sites. I know the tenements are all gone....but there are some signs
and some old preserved buildings in those neighborhoods that I took pictures
of. Francis street is now a 'hooty-tooty' antiques center!
I went to Glasnevin to visit the grave of my grandmother's sister who died
age 16 of TB only to find that she was in an 'unmarked grave with unknown
strangers'. I got teary eyed at that news but followed the map they gave me... to
'speak to Kate to let her know she was thought of today'. I guess I hoped
Kate would give me a little miracle, i. e. a acorn would fall or a tulip would
erupt from the spot where she is lying. But while I was waiting for the bus to
go back downtown....I did find a bright copper penny...a 'penny from
heaven' from Kate? :)
I also stopped at the gravesites to Michael Collins and Charles Stewart
Parnell to have a few words with them. LOL The Angel Plot was spectacularly
beautiful...and it is Mary McAleese who is to thank for that.
I loved Dublin....and hope to return for more research and magic.

Hi Flo there is a Genealogy or Library there on Pearse Street now I
think.Might give you some information on the history of the area, go in there it
might be just your
cup of tea as they say in Ireland. Dublin is a nice city but changed a lot
I have been
told, full of foreigners and very expensive to stay. Ask for help at the
Irish
Tourist Board for places to stay not too expensive. You can get them online
at Bord Failte.com or something like that. Have a good trip say hello to the
suburbs are more interesting than the city center. Get out to Dollymount
bearh No.30 bus, Clontarf same area and Howth a lovely area if ever there
was one.
about 6 mil from city center. Get out of the center and tour the
neighborhoods
if you can. Cheers, slainte, Pat

Thanks Brian...I found Pearse Sq. right away on the map. I remember seeing
it. ....and thinking that could be it...but then thinking ...well maybe
there was a Queen Square across the street or something. Wish I'd known
more about my family when traveling to Ireland in 1981. I would have tried
to find the house. I was very disappointed my Mom's house had been taken
down.
Take care, Flo
