Hi Myra --
The letterhead of letters I received from St. Michael's in the late '80s
says:
St. Michael's Church, Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. Office Tel
804969
An Irish Tourist Board pamphlet says: "The original St. Michael's Church in
Marine Road was built in the early 19th century. It was destroyed by fire
in 1965. The present church, which incorporates the original bell tower,
was completed in 1973." That's all it says. You could try to find a "Blue
Guide to Ireland" or a "Michelin Green Guide to Ireland" (my library has had
them, as does Amazon.com). They probably have a more detailed description
and a map. Mine are packed away or I would tell you what they say.
I saw the church when I visited DL in the mid '80s. It looks fairly Gothic.
I don't recall going inside. It's at the intersection of Lower George's
Street and Marine Road (called Royal Marine on my Ordnance Survey Map), two
blocks from the harbor. The car ferry terminal and the yacht club are the
main features on the harbor near St. Michael's.
That intersection looks roughly like an X, with the \ part being Lower
George's, which runs parallel to the harbor line, and the top half of the /
being Marine. The church sits in the space between the two top arms.
Perhaps Mick at the genealogical society can give you more info.
