Ah-a kindred soul. I have been hanging on hoping that the torrent of
requests would go away. I agree that the info is of very limited use to
the list, and wonder why the look up service is not used instead.
Surely the periodic roll call would alert us to others searching the
same surnames. I thought perhaps I was the only one who felt this way.
Are there any others?

I've received a great deal of enjoyment during my time here on the list
and have learned much about the county from whence came my forebears.
This type of mutual support group is of inestimable value to family
researchers.

However, I was somewhat saddened a few months back when the decision was
made to allow all the common correspondence of "lookups." I am
continually amazed at these wonderful people who volunteer their time
and sources for the benefit of a large group of total strangers. But,
every time one comes up, instead of directing queries to those
individuals and the answers to those seeking the help, the list is
inundated with literally hundreds of messages that are almost entirely
of informational value to only one person. I really think that's a waste
of a marvelous facility.

This is really only my opinion, and I respect the right of the list
administrator to make the decisions for the group, but I can no longer
spend time sorting through all the chaff for the occasional tidbit of
common interest. These posts are currently running at a ratio of well
over 10 to 1.

I wish all of you all the best in your continuing searches and hope that
someday the rule will change. Until then, i'll check back from time to
time.

Best regards and a Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!
