Hi Margaret Mary,
Tried dozens of combinations of Farney with Ba, Bal, Ballly, Bali
trying to locate Bafarney Parish, village, town, locality plus Roman Catholic,
Church of Ireland, Methodist etc without any luck. The Farney family, name, clan
was very wide spread and in many localities were more closely associated
with the English and Scots than they were with "real" Irish". They seem to be
one of those families that affiliated with the armed forces that were in power
in their locality, and switched sides when the next group took power and/or
dominated their vicinity. They appear to go back a long way and often had
holdings that might have maintained a church for a short period of time
disappearing when the new troops arrived. Such an event might have left only a road,
field, or pasture land with dimly recalled "names" that only the "old" family
members might use.
I wrote another E-mail on the subject with a few more specifics but a
phone call came in which sent the whole thing into limbo. With my phone set
up I can ignore a call and stay on line but if one of our phones is picked up
we are cut off. Mary answered it to find a salesman, and I found the message
telling me that I was not longer on AOL.
Sorry I couldn't help but will be on the alert for any mention of
Bafarney.
Love, Uncle Joe and Aunt
Mary
