"Has anyone heard of or read of a group of Kerryman that joined the French
Army in the 1700's and were known as "The Irish Brigade"? Is anyone aware of
any books that would tell of their exploits?"

"the Irish Brigade"

"Mac Elligott

.. Roger Mac Elligott ... was a prisoner in the Tower of London until 1697;
was exchanged to France and took command of the regiment de Clancarty of the
Irish Brigade"

"O'Mahoney Mahony

... The family lands were confiscated by the Cromwellians, and many of the
caln served in the Irish Brigades in Europe"

" Stack, Stak, Stake

...General Edward Stack, lieut. in French army in 1777, ent. British army as
lt-col. of Irish Brigade in 1794, col 1801, general in 1830, died in Calais
1833"

Also there were troups in the American Civil war refered to as the Irish
Brigade.
