Hi Anna! I now have it from a second cousin to my husband, Charles M. Phalen, that Richard and Thomas were brothers. Apparently Thomas followed Richard to the U.S., then went his own way to Maine, while Richard was in Massachusetts. They both ended up in Wisconsin by 1855. I don't have any actual proof of this - it comes from some old family research done by an aunt of Chuck Phalen. It does make sense, though, and you can find contact between the two families in some of the non-vital records. Really time to do that Irish research now! - Janet
