Speaking as someone growing up in the 1940's the rural community in which I grew up in America referred marriages of two different faiths as "Mixed Marriages."
This in part was due to the fact that while there were different ethnic races present, all of them where Caucasian. At the time in our history, due to discrimination practices in this country there were no marriages between whites and blacks. Society exerted extreme pressures to keep the races separate and inter-racial contact was unheard of in the northern states. I can't speak with authority on the practices in the southern states, but of course it was there that blacks experienced the greatest and most overt discrimination.
