Subject: [IRL-LIMERICK-L] Norah O'Donnell: Help! Where is ELTON??
Hello list
I am a new subscriber.
My gg Grandmother Nora(h) O'DONNELL was born at ELTON in Limerick in
about 1863 (I think in March). She was the daughter of David O'DONNELL a
farmer and his wife Bridget WHITE.
She left Ireland under the New Zealand Government assisted scheme in
1883 when she was living at: C/C Mr Kern or McKern, Dooneen Post Office,
County Limerick.
She has a sister Katherine who came to New Zealand before her who
married R H Silvester, possibly in Ireland.
She had a brother Patrick O'DONNELL who left Ireland in 1886 again under
the Assisted scheme. He was working for ?John Spelane?, Kilpencord,
Kilpencord (sic) 'about 2 years' as a Ploughman, Labourer and Servant.
His address was given as Crecorn, Patrickswell, Co Limerick.
Succinctly put:
Norah O'Donnell born Elton circa 1863
Parents: David O'Donnell and Bridget White
Siblings: Katherine (Silvester ?) and Patrick of Kilpencord and Crecorn
Emigrated: 1883 from Plymouth, when Irish address given as C/- McKern or
Mr Kern, Dooneen Post Office
My questions are: How do I go about tracing her? Is it worth while
having a preliminary search done at the County Archives?
More specifically, where is ELTON, I can't find it, nor Crecorn or
Dooneen.
I look forward to any resposes.
Yours sincerely
Nicholas Aveling
