In 1736 James Macpherson, Scottish "translator" (there is some thought
that
he may have written them) of the Ossianic poems, was born.

In 1914 Dylan Marlais Thomas, Welsh poet, was born.

In 1980 seven Irish political prisoners in Long Kesh started a hunger
strike.
The sought a return of political status. They later were joined bt three

female prisoners in the Armagh prison.
