Wondering if any list member has information about a Reginald MEEHAN,
married to a HINCHY/HINCHEY who left Ireland, likely from Limerick, to
Australia in the late 1830s or early 1840s.
According to info sent to me by a researcher in Australia, when my
gr-gr-grandmother, Catherine HINCHY/HINCHEY arrived in Sydney, NSW in 1844,
"She had a relation in the colony; a sister married to Reginald MEEHAN,
gone
to Port Phillip (Melbourne). [This kind of entry usually meant that they
had arrived as a married couple. This is an unusual name and the writing is
pretty poor, but I think this is what it says.]"
I haven't been able to find any info about this MEEHAN couple through
searching in OZ records in both NSW and Victoria, so, assuming they did
leave Ireland as a married couple, I thought I would try looking for clues
at their most likely point of departure from Ireland. Any/all assistance
appreciated -- have info to share about descendents of Catherine Hinchy.
