Hi Terri -

First of all, I am NOT LDS, but I have used the local Family History
Centre facilities and am very grateful for them. The only thing you
overlooked is when you said "what ever work is done regarding baptisms
are done for my family and mine alone. I have no interest in taking
someone elses family and doing something against their wishes." Your
family, especially back a few generations, is also the family of
probably hundreds of other people too, so when you rebaptize "your
family" you are doing it, whether they agree or not, to the "family"
of a lot of other people.
The other side of that coin, to me, is that if someone "baptizes" my
ancestors into the LDS Church, I will be able to find them! I can think
of a couple of elusive ancestors that I WISH someone would "baptize"!!
And my personal belief happens to be that if someone "baptizes" my
ancestor into the LDS church, when the ancestor has been dead for
many years, how can that possibly do anything to change them or the
lives they lived. For them, it won't change anything -it's all in
what you believe. And we are not pressured to share your beliefs.

The making available of those records from all over the world, at
excellent facilities, and at practically no cost at all, is surely
something for which we should all thank whatever deity we do believe
in.

And hurray for pattypb - thought she expressed it so well!
