I don't know if you have a map of the country, but if you
do, take a look at Glin on the south shore of the Shannon
river ( Glin is the P.L.U. for Cahernagh, among many other
townlands) - now look north across the Shannon to Co.Clare
and find Killadysert, O.K.? ( Killadysert is the P.L.U. for
Liscasey). Got it?
Well, to travel from the Glin area by road through Limerick
and then to Ennis and then to the townland of Liscasey is
relatively speaking quite a distance, especially in the
days without motor cars. But by water directly across the
Shannon and then on up to Liscasey is a very short distance
compared to the road trip ( Of course, if one crossed the
Shannon by boat [rowing], one would still need road
conveyance to Liscasey )
It is difficult, in fact, it is impossible, to make a
family connection based on distance, more especially when
one family of the name lived in Co. Limerick and the other,
also of the same name, lived across the Shannon in mainland
Co.Clare.
Btw, both the 1851 townland index and the 1901 index name
it Liscasey, not Lissycasey.
