Hi Patti

>From all accounts, the British military kept very good records which contain many bits of information about the recruits, their service dates, places where they were stationed, physical details, etc.

Try this website: http://www.pro.gov.uk The Office itself is located in Kew, London, and the website will give you all the necessary directions for having a search done there. You may also want to have a search done on Patrick's father too.

You wrote:

>Patrick's census records show he was born is Gibralter so I assume his father was in the military. How would I find out about that? The Irish in the English military?<

And:
>are there any Testin names there yet? One theory is they changed it from another variation. I suspect it was English and he was born to at least an English father living at a military base there in Limerick. Does anyone have any ideas on that?<

Good luck,

Rosemary
