Subject: [LMK] JOHN GUINANE & sister BRIDGET
Date: Mon, 3 Nov 2003 07:43:55 -0800 (PST)

I was recently sent back to "Go" whe I discovered that my gr-gr-grandfather was NOT "John Guinan" (as my grandmother had reported) but rather JOHN GUINANE. I have seen suggestion that these names may have been used interchangeably. However, 3 family letters have surfaced in which he eloquently writes to his grand-daughter on life in the CO Rockies at the Continental Divide, and he signs his name GUINANE & is so listed in the local obituary (Mar 1819-Nov 15, 1895) as well as the mine claims & homestead he owned at Idaho Springs, so I have dropped the "Guinan" seach & am hoping for responses to "Guinane". A letter from his lawyer to the family after his death mentions a sister BRIDGET, married to JAMES McEVOY & living in Gretna, NE. The grand-daughter of Bridget is still living in Gretna & has quite a few recollections!
John Guinane eloped from Dromalta, where he worked for James Ryan, with the daughter of James, Catherine L, during famine times, settling in Clinton Heights (near Albany), NY. They never married but gave birth to my gr-grandmother, MARY ELIZABETH, and went separate ways.
John lived in the Rockies 1872-1895. Now I'm trying to fill in the time from birth of Mary Elizabeth (1850) to 1872.
