To anyone who can help!

My grandfather ws born in Ballyagran, Limerick 1879. He came to New York
most likely in his late teens or early 20's. Can anyone advise what Ports
there were in the are where he may have left from? I have tried Ellis Island
records, but I have not idea if he used Patrick O'Sullivan - Patrick Sullivan
or some other variation. Maybe somecone can help me where to start??
