Hello,
My family (Heaney's) came from Barry in Co. Longford. William (or James) Heaney
married a Mary Whitney and they had a son James. They came
to New York and settled in Troy, NY and then later Rome and
Amboy.
I'm having trouble finding out what happened to the mother and
father (I know all about the son James tho.) And also the boat they
came over on. I know they left the Port of Dublin but don't know
where they came to ...either Canada or NY or where. It was
around 1825. I don't know if the parents went back to Ireland or
what. I went to the Ellis Island site and there is a Wm. Heaney
from Longford but how does one know if it's their's or not?
Any suggestions or help or info is most appreciated. I wrote to
the catholic church but they don't have records then.
