I'm having much the same problem with my Farrell's. I've got my great
grandfather but he was not living with his parents. If you have a rough age
then I'd suggest trawling through the births registers. If you know when
they died a death cert would give their date of birth (usually) but not in
mid 19th century. My biggest asset is putting all the files on the Longford
site into different sheets in excel. Its laborious but a lot easier when it
comes to searching using different criteria. Look for first names that have
survived in the family, see if they used the Irish naming pattern. Doing
this I have narrowed my search down to just three Farrell families.
If family history was easy we wouldn't be doing it.
