Hello
My mother's mother was Rose Elizabeth Rice and she was born in Liverpool in 1892 to Irish parents who I understand came from Omeath Co Louth.
Based on the 1891 and 1901 UK census returns I have the following:
Bernard Rice born ~1857 Ireland
Elizabeth Rice (nee O'Hagan) born ~1863 Ireland
Mary Rice born ~1887 Ireland
Michael Rice born ~1889 Ireland
My grandmother visited relatives in Ireland when she was a young girl, so I'm assuming that there were related Rices and/or O'Hagans in the area until at least the early 1900s. My maternal aunt has a vague memory of a placename that sounds like the Creg or the Crag - does that sound like any existing placenames?
Can anyone on the list link in to these relatives?
On a more general note, can anyone advise me of the best way to obtain vital records for Catholics living in the Omeath/Carlingford/Newry/Dundalk areas in the mid to late 1800s
Many Thanks
