I am researching families in Ballinastangford - Townland of Birchfield - Claremorris. In particular, the names CLARKE (CLEARY), COSTELLO, with marriage links STAUNTON, BOYLE, MCGREAL (GREALLY), DOWD, GRIFFIN, VELDON, MCGUINESS, CLEARY, NOLAN, BARNICEL, plus probable links SHIVNANE, LAVIN, BEGLEY, HEALY, MURPHY, MCDONAGH who are all shown as marriage witnesses and marriage sponsors. I have documented details back to 1840, and estimates for birthdates back to 1805 calculated from 1901 census. My starting point is Thomas CLARKEc.1819 and Catherine (Kitty) COSTELLO c.1823 m. at Claremorris 1842/3, living at Birchfield, and Kitty's (probable) brothers John Costello m. Mary McGreal, James Costello m. Ann (Nancy) NOLAN and Edward Costello who is listed as married in 1901 census, but living with his widowed brother, and no records of a marriage or children have been found, so this could be an enumerator's error. Many descendants emigrated to USA or England.
