Hello Eilis,
Sorry to give you the wrong impression that the records did not contain references to Ireland. All U.S. census records, death records, obituaries, etc, clearly state Ireland and specifically County Mayo (death and obits) as place of origin for Patrick,Mary and children Thomas Francis, Bridget and Mary while other records after 1864 for children, etc are in the U. S. In addition the obits for Patrick, Mary and chilren Thomas Francis and Bridget note County Mayo as home of origin.
The ship record of the Cynosure lists Patrick, Mary, Thomas, Bridget and and infant Mary traveling together. Their ages match very closely to U.S. census records, obits, church records and family lore (which while essentially correct is incorrect on some details-which I attribute to sketchy memories and facts being distorted in translation).
Also I have been working and comparing records with three other researchers with whom I have common ancestors and our research and findings support these suppositions.
It is only recently that I have begun to do more extensive research in Ireland, and while I admit it is like untying the Gordian knot, I have made contact w/some relatives in Ireland who have confirmed findings and have supplemented, corrected, etc what I have.
I will wait for the cert to take further action on Patrick and Mary but I'm not a big believer in the many coincidences that would be necessary to shake this connection. For what it's worth, I believe O.J. to be guilty :-)
Again thanks for your help!
Jerry
