Use Cleveland Necrology File as key words click on. It will take you to the file, a space with cursor blinking place your surname without/with given name. If there are any they will come up or you will be told there is no listing. This covers the years from about or just before 1875 to 1975. After 1975, you can insert name. If there is one, you will be given the date, section and page. That is all that I have ever been able to open up on these. Then I go out to Fairview County Library and microfiche that page for the actual obit.
The Necrology File is part of the Cleveland Public Library website, too.
Also, until about 1920, obits were the unsual. Cleveland being an ethnic city and obits were expensive, "word of mouth", the Sunday pulpit, and the black wreaths/bunting on the doors denoted the death. Printed obits were rare.
American spellings also may cause confusion. If I have no luck with surname/given, I next do Irish nick names for given (i.e. Nell/Nellie for Ellen/Elinor, Judith/Judy/Johanna/Joan for Joanna, etc.) Then I scroll through just the surname which in a common Irish Mayo name can be in the hundreds. But I do agree it is a great source.

Hi List,
What am I doing incorrectly concerning the Cleveland Necrology site -
http://dxsrv4.cpl.org/
when I try to get into it I get a page that states on the upper left hand
side "null"? Thanks so much for any advice.
