Jean,
Regarding a John who was a cousin of Catherine Honor
McHale,b ca 1867 he could have been a cousin through
her father's side of the family or a cousin through
her mother's side of the family so even his surname is
unknown at this point in addition to his date and
place of birth and his parents names.
To find out who the cousin John was, what his surname
was, when he was born and where in County Mayo, you'd
need to find out the names of each of Catherine Honor
McHale's parents siblings and where and when they were
born.
You'd then need to search for each of their marriage
records in either the civil marriage records indexes
if they were married during or after 1864 or in the
church marriage records for their church marriage
location locally.
And then search for the children born of each of those
marriages either in the civil registrations records of
births if they were born after 1864 or in the church
baptismal records for the parish or parishes where
they were baptised to find which sibling had a son
named John.
That's if John was a first cousin.
