Thanks for your reply. Yes, I know, it has been a real brick wall, until I found that information from IFHF. I am wondering who to contact to look into the church records more.....would it be the research center? Most Irish Pughs are Welsh or English, and Protestant, but my Pughs are Catholic, it is said they came from France originally. The original name was a derivative of DePugh- they dropped the De after coming to France. The naming pattern was John, Patrick, Francis and James- quite original! And Catherine for the girls. My grandpa said his Dad came from County Mayo, but both Mayo and Sligo were total brick walls. This was the first find that matched the information I had. I found Catherine Dinnan in the marriage records and Catherine Dinnany on the birth records for John. Now I want to find his brothers, Francis and James, and his sister Kate, who died before John came to the US. I doubt there were any of their family left, it appears they all immigrated, but I will contact Audrey to see what she knows about her name.We hope to visit Ireland next year, and would like to visit County Meath- it looks very interesting.
