Subject: [IRL-MONAGHAN] Townland- Agharooskey
Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2008 23:41:13 -0400
Hello,
I think I may have just found out that my great-grandfather was born in the
Townland of Agharooskey, Co. Monaghan. I always thought he was from
Fermangh.
I cannot find a townland by that name in Monaghan. I am not very familiar
with Monaghan since I have always been looking in Fermanagh.
Is there a townland in Monaghan named Agharooskey? Does anyone know where it
is? Does anyone have a map of it?
I know that there is a townland in Fermanagh called Agharooky West or
something like that. I would have to look that up again. This information
says Monaghan.
Would anyone be able to shed any light on this for me? Would anyone have
access to the 1901 Census of Ireland to look up this family. I know that my
MURRAY family was in the townland of Mullyduff, Co. Fermanagh in the 1911
Census but they weren't there for the 1901. The townland of Agharoosky in
Fermanagh is fairly close to Mullyduff. There is no townland in Monaghan
called Agharooskey according to SeanRuad. I am totally confused and don't
know what to think now.
I have a marriage certificate for James MURRAY and Margaret GIBNEY (my
great-grandmothers name). They were married in 1905 at the Cathedral of
Monaghan. It says that James was residing in Drummaconor, Monaghan and
Margaret was residing at Monaghan. James MURRAY's daughter says she
remembers that he was from Agharoosky (she doesn't know the spelling or
place).
