I would definitely work backwards and check Griffith's, The Notebooks, and the Tithes. The Notebooks consist of such things as House Books, Tenure Books, and Field (also called Soil) Books. For Notebooks, you can look at them on film at the National Archives in Dublin, or you can check Valuation Records at the Family History Center web site and order the films from there. If you find that a sibling of your ancestor stayed in that area, you could check Cancelled Land records (which can bring you up to the present time) and the 1901 Census, if someone stayed there that long.
