Susan,

My Palatine family migrated to Maryland also in the 1790's.=20
=20
John Ruckle my 5th. great grandfather, was the son of Sebastian Ruckle who=20
was the son of Casper Ruckle. Casper Ruckle and his son Sebastian fled=20
Germany in 1709 and were sent to the Southwell Estate in Ireland. The house=
=20
still stands that they built and Ruckle (Ruttle) descendants still live ther=
e.
=20
John Ruckle my 5th great grandfather migrated to Baltimore, Maryland with hi=
s=20
family in the 1790's. He supposedly died in Baltimore, Maryland in 1798. =20
John's sons and one daughter all had businesses and trades in Baltimore,=20
City. The Ruckle's have a good history in Maryland.=20

One of John's sons, Thomas Ruckle, my 4th. great grandfather who was an=20
amateur artist and house painter and glazier by trade. Thomas Ruckle painte=
d=20
the Ruckle Family Tree mentioned on page 104 in Hank Jones book, "The=20
Palatine Families of Ireland". He also painted some War of 1812 scenes and=20
some church scenes that hang in the Maryland Historical Society.
=20
My 3rd great grandfather, William Hogarth Ruckle, son of Thomas Ruckle,=20
migrated to Allegany Co., MD and then to VA? in 1826 or so. He was married=20
twice and then died shortly after his second son was born. His first son by=
=20
his first wife,----Snider, named Thomas Jefferson Ruckle, my 2nd. great=20
grandfather remained in WV/VA while William Hogarth Ruckle's second wife=20
Rachel Cole returned to Baltimore, MD with her son William Thomas Ruckle and=
=20
remarried.
=20
William Thomas Ruckle lived and prospered in Baltimore City with a plumming=20
business which was passed on in the family.

Thomas Ruckle had a daughter Elizabeth Anne Ruckle who never married.

He had another son, Thomas Coke Ruckle who was a professional painter of=20
portraits and landscapes who studied at the Royal Academy in London. Some of=
=20
Thomas Coke Ruckle's paintings hang in the Maryland Historical Society also.=
=20
One painting that he did was a famous Methodist painting, "The Ordination o=
f=20
Asbury".

John Ruckle was the brother of Barbara Ruckle Heck who migrated with her=20
husband Paul Heck and Philip and Margaret Embury to New York in 1760. She i=
s=20
called the "Mother of Methodism". They were responsible for having the firs=
t=20
Methodist Meeting in America.

Another of John's brothers, Paul Ruckle migrated to New York in 1766.

Another of John's brothers, Daniel Ruckle had descendants who migrated to=20
Garret Co., Maryland, Henry Ruckle married to Catherine Stark, a son of =20
Daniel Ruckle's son George of Adare Ruckle. They arrived in 1822 on the shi=
p=20
"Weser". There is a history of Henry and Catherine Stark Ruckle written in=20
"The Bittinger, Bittner, Biddinger, and Bidinger Families-and their kin-of=20
Garrett Co., Maryland", by Wayne Biddinger. I don't know where to locate a=20
copy of the book but do have copies of the Ruckle pages. (If anyone knows=20
where to find a copy of this book I would appreciate the information.)

Henry and Catherine brought with them Henry Ruckle's brother Michael Ruckle'=
s=20
children. Michael's wife must have died and Michael was already here in=20
America as was their other brother Rev. Thomas R. Ruckle. Rev. Thomas R.=20
Ruckle migrated to Muskingum, Ohio. Michael Ruckle remarried to Kesiah=20
Friend in Allegany Co., Maryland and migrated to Muskingum, Ohio also.

Sorry to have went on and on. This is the first time I have responded to th=
e=20
group. I live in Baltimore, Maryland.=20

Carole Ruckle Richardson
