Freemans Journal 28-8-1827
Murder of the Sheas. On Monday, Patrick Walsh, was tried at Clonmel Assizes,
for the atrocious murder and burning of the Sheas, at Tubber, in the County
of Tipperary, on the night of the 19th. Nov. 1821?. This important case
excited a strong and general feeling of anxiety, the Court House was
crowded, and at 6 O'Clock in the evening, the jury retired for deliberation.
There appearing no probability of an agreement, the Court adjourned to the
next day, the jury remained in all night, and at 10 O'Clock in the morning
when the latest accounts left, they had not then found a verdict, and
preparations were being made for kishing the panel to the bounds of the
County. Last Spring assizes Pat Gorman was found guilty and executed for
this terrible outrage.
