I plan to be in Dublin for one week in May.

Can anyone share with me what luck they may have had finding ancestors in
WestMeath? My GGF was born in Westmeath in 1834,. He was enlisted as a Dublin
Metropolitan Policeman in 1854-1858. Milltown was listed as place of origin.
Enlistment was at Ballynacarrigy, a Post Town. He re-enlisted 1861-83. At
some time and place he married my GGM [Mary?] Jane McKeon and then the babies
began.......I have no record of the birth of son John H. LeStrange but I
suspect that it was c1862. John H. came to Boston 1884 and his story in Boston is
a sad and tragic one. Other children I have found: Mathew b.1865,
Eliza[beth] b.1867, followed by Bridget, Catherine, Dennis, Thomas, Patrick and????.
GGF Thomas L'Estrange died Dublin 1903 and Jane died Dublin 1905. Several of
their children did not survive to adulthood. GM Eliza[beth] came to Boston and
married my GF 1886. Catherine [Kate] died age 16 [servant] 1886 in Dublin. I
visited her gravesite [unmarked and with unknown others] at Glasnevin this
past spring.

I would love to go on to Westmeath....by public transportation. What should
I be looking for beforehand? And where? I've been to the Garda station and
was graciously assisted. Also at Dublin Castle to the Garda Museum where I was
shown the ledger and the original entries of my GGF's enlistment in the DMP.
Please tell me about the repositories of the civil records and what church
records may be available. Also how can I narrow down the townland and the
marriage information?

Any and all suggestions will be gratefully received.
