If the book, "Families of Wexford", were available, I would purchase it. I
live in central California and last summer contacted both the Los Angeles
county library and the large LDS Family History Library in Westwood, CA when
planning a research trip. I was told that the library had "Families of
Wexford", but when I arrived they didn't have it and had no explanation.
My point is, if the book were available for purchase, or at libraries, we
might not be having this discussion. I was also under the impression that
copyright laws in a matter like this would be violated if the book were
being reprinted and sold...
Does anyone know if the publishers plan to reprint this book? I think people
on the Wexford list are wonderful for sharing their resources and
information and don't think we should be rigid about this when the book
isn't available.
If my Irish grandmother were here, she would say worrying about this "is a
lot of hooey." Let's keep in the spirit of the law - God knows there are
very serious problems that need to be addressed.
I liked Clifford Smith's (received via e-mail) wish for the new year -
May the happiness of the new year reside in finding a living unknown
cousin, a new documentation for old ancestors, at least one new source to
investigate and the removal of one more stone from the stone wall. Thanks,
Clifford - and back at ya...

Alan,
Anytime you print large quotes from a book whose
author is still living, you commit copyright
infringement. Unless copyright is renewed, an
original written document is considered under
copyright for a specified number of years, depending
on the country you're in. If you're posting something
to a website or message list that's likely to be read
by someone from another country, then you are also
bound by the copyright laws of that country. There is
a multi-country agreement, but I don't know the
specifics.
In the case of Families of Wexford, Hilary Murphy is
still very much alive.
