Dear Mary Justice
You ask were your great-grandfather was Thomas
Ryan, born 1844 somewhere in Ireland.
Parents Patrick Ryan & Alice Moran
I would suggest that you use Griffith's Valuation. to Locate. You may find
your local Family History Centre has a copy of the CD. It references more
than one million individuals who occupied property in Ireland between 1848
and 1864. Since no Irish census of the nineteenth century has survived,
Griffith's Valuation is a record of extreme importance. It is, essentially,
the only detailed guide to where in Ireland people lived during the
mid-nineteenth century and what property they possessed. In effect,
Griffith's Valuation can be used as a census substitute for the years
before, during, and after the Great Famine.
Put in Patrick Ryan and up will come all the Patrick Ryan that leases
properties what counties, and name of town lands copy these into Excel or
other data base. Then go to Moran and do the same,
Use sort with place names This should narrow down were your ancestors come
from.
Good Luck
Regards
Dave
