Could someone please explain to me why Irish research costs so much? I recently made an enquiry for some one to search in one county for Joseph P. Edwards. Would you believe the cost was US$450.!!!! I think that is a real rip-off. I had my Scottish genealogy traced back to the 1600s for CAN$60. I don't know how anyone can afford to pay for Irish research.

Also, is it true that only a researcher can go to the National Archives and look up information? Here in Canada anyone can do research at the National Archives. It's free, unless you want copies of something, and then the cost is minimal
