My g-g-grandmama and her sister came here a Famine Orphan in 1850 via the
Tuam workhouse (yes, folks, Co. Galway). Both of their parents are shown as
being alive. So they weren't even been half-orphans!
Don't think there would have been a shortage of orphans in Co. Galway - it
fared much worse than Co. Wicklow in the Great Hunger.
In 1855 the girls paid passage for their mother and younger sister to come
out. Mother is then shown as a widow.
There's my "take it with a grain of salt" bit.
As for my Wickow Mary Bryne/s - I think my best chance is to catch up with
her "on the other side".
