Julie,
Thanks for the mail. Maybe you know how to find out about those who worked
in the Coastguard service? The generations of my WHITE family are so
spread and few are in contact with eadh other that it's proving difficult
to find out anything at the moment.
Does the name KENWAY mean anything to anyone?

I'm afraid I cannot help you Kathy but I was struck by a similarity in our
family
histories. My great-grandfather's grandfather was called WILLIAM BENNETT
GOLD. He was
born in East Cowes, ISLE OF WIGHT. He joined the East Indies Company and
one of his four
daughters was born in Ireland. According to one of his daughter's marriage
records, he was
also a sailor. In 1851 he was serving with the Coastguards at North
Sunderland (near
Bamburgh).
